Yellow Watchman Goby - Cryptocentrus cinctus

The Yellow Watchman Goby is a perennial favorite in the saltwater hobby, beloved for its vivid golden-yellow body, polka-dotted fins, and those wonderfully oversized, puppy-dog eyes that seem to watch your every move. True to its name, it spends much of its time perched at the entrance of a burrow — ever-vigilant, surveying its territory with alert, curious eyes. In the wild, it forms a fascinating symbiotic partnership with pistol shrimp, sharing a burrow while the shrimp does the digging; this pairing can be recreated in the home aquarium for one of the most entertaining behavioral displays in the hobby.

• Tank size: 30+ gallons with a fine sand bed of at least 2“ depth for burrowing
• Reef-safe: yes — safe with corals and invertebrates
• Compatible with pistol shrimp — pairing with an Alpheid (pistol) shrimp creates a natural and captivating symbiotic display
• Diet: carnivore — readily accepts frozen mysis, brine shrimp, and quality pellets; will also sift sand for small invertebrates
• Generally peaceful, though may show mild aggression toward other gobies of similar size and shape
• A jumper — a secure lid is recommended
