Green emerald crab

The Green Emerald Crab is a hardy and efficient algae-eating invertebrate that thrives in reef tanks of 20 gallons or larger. These crabs reach 1–1.5 inches in size and typically live 3–5 years with proper care. They actively graze on filamentous, hair algae, and bubble algae, helping maintain a clean rockscape without consuming coral or fish.

Feed a varied diet of dried seaweed, blanched vegetables, and occasional protein-based foods. Provide plenty of hiding spots among rock and rubble to support natural behavior. They prefer stable salinity between 1.023–1.025, temperatures of 72–78°F, and moderate water flow. Best kept singly or in pairs to avoid territorial aggression.

Emerald crabs are excellent for community reef setups and work well alongside corals and peaceful fish. Monitor water quality closely and ensure adequate nutrition to prevent them from turning predatory on small shrimp or fish. A valuable cleanup crew member for any established saltwater aquarium.
