Arrow crabs are striking additions to established reef aquariums, prized for their distinctive long legs and active hunting behavior. These crustaceans thrive in tanks with plenty of rockwork and hiding spaces, requiring a minimum of 20 gallons with stable salinity (1.023–1.025), pH between 8.1–8.4, and temperatures of 72–78°F.
Arrow crabs are opportunistic feeders and excellent hunters of small invertebrates, including bristle worms, small starfish, and shrimp. They will scavenge uneaten food and detritus but may also target desirable corals and smaller fish. Feed quality frozen foods like mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, or specialized crustacean pellets 2–3 times weekly, supplementing with occasional live prey. They are aggressive hunters and may nip at soft corals, so tank mate selection is critical—avoid pairing with delicate species, ornamental shrimp, or small fish they can catch.
Ideal tank mates include hardy fish species, established corals away from grab range, and sturdy invertebrates. Arrow crabs prefer low-flow areas and benefit from caves or crevices for shelter and molting. They can be territorial and may fight with other crabs or aggressive invertebrates. Monitor water quality closely and perform regular partial water changes to maintain stable conditions.
